2022: Just The Hits

After getting inflatable out the door, why not some more. Between the girls, Spotify, soundtracks, YouTube and my own never ending need to listen or relisten to music here is a list of 2022. Cover photo was a late Fall morning in Lawrenceville taken by Sara with credits to me for suggesting it.

You Can’t Blame the Youth (Live)
Bob Marley & The Wailers | Capital Session ‘73

This whole live album is worth it, so listen to it. Also, how many times do you hear Marco Polo getting the gas face?

New Flesh
Current Joys | Wild Heart

This song has appeared in the last few weeks from the Spotify algorithms and Stella. I like the way it builds, and that it might be completely computer generated as a timestamp of where things are right now.

Hello (feat Dragonette)
Martin Solveig | Hello

Ted Lasso can be thanked for this tune. Recently, I decreed that the girls can say/hear swearing if it is funny or in a foreign accent. Stella now has a killer Teddy KGB impression and Fiona knows a lot of British slang words and is a big fan of Roy Kent.

Hey Mami
Sylvan Esso | Sylvan Esso

Found this duo on NPRs Tiny Desk Concerts, which if you have not watched you should. Anyway, these two are married, creating amazing tunes, movies and more. check them out.

I Ain’t Worried
OneRepublic | Top Gun

I enjoyed Top Gun; it was fun which was a happy surprise. This song is as pop as it gets from the same movie.

Running Up That Hill
Kate Bush | Hounds of Love

This song is for Fiona who is both a decorated cross-country runner and a major Stranger Things Fan. The family watched the entire series in 2022, and while I think it was pretty clear the show jumped the shark after the mall blew up; they had some excellent tunes in their soundtrack.

Love Me Forever
Carlton & The Shoes | Love Me Forever

This song was recorded before I was born with equipment from the 1950/60s and I think it sounds way ahead of its time.

Spiral Stairs
Yot Club | Spiral Stairs

Catchy tune, and I like the chorus, “It’s already been done before, so what’s the point, let’s all just have fun.” Spent a lot of time building new things in finance over these past years, it is fun to see them in action.

They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y)
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth | Mecca & The Soul Brother

Blast from the past, unearthed by the show Ozark.

Destroyed by Hippie Powers
Car Seat Headset | Teens of Denial

Modern rock approved by Stella Platt. I like the ring to that. Emo in the 2010s.

Fire Back About Your New Baby’s Sex
Don Caballero | Live ‘2012

One of my favorites released a whole bunch of YouTube video interviews in 2019. Probably the best introduction to this group comes from this clip, worth a watch for the reaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1TXTaYjWp0&t=814s

Crisis
Bob Marley & The Wailer | Kaya 40th Anniversary

This album is incredible, and I love this song. Everything involved in macro investing seems to be incorporated in this song, and I think Bob would be particularly horrified how many people hijack the agenda in the name of something good. new crusade with the same result; death and destruction.

Texas Sun
Khruangbin | Texas Sun

Matt, Lauren, Leo and Smith moved to Austin. We visited in February and I took an early morning walk and got to see a glorious version of this song. These guys also ended up rounded out Inflatable Christmas this year, and this song is awesome. Looking forward to my next direct flight to Austin.

I Only Have Eyes For You
The Flamingos | Flamingo Serenade

From the Crown, which Sara and I have been big fans of surprisingly. This song and the atmosphere in it are magical just like Sara.

Morning Sun
Dave Bixby | Ode to Quetalcoatl

“Living is an art, to be good at”, exactly. All the best to you and yours in 2023!
