Inflatable Christmas Tree Vol. 4 - 2009

Happy Holidays

Inflatable Christmas Tree has always been meant to set the mood while you and yours have a great time in the coming year. If you end up enjoying a song or an artist enough to listen to more, all the better.

It’s All Right
The Impressions | Ultimate Collection

Sara and I heard this song at a diner in our old neighborhood in NYC in the middle of a snowstorm. It warmed us up then, perhaps it will do the same for you.

White Winter Hymnal
Fleet Foxes | Fleet Foxes

Catchy ballad that captures the feeling of winter and the pursuit of better days ahead.

Little Nassau/Bahama Mama
Andre Toussaint | Putamayo Presents Calypso

This is a track from my exploration of calypso music over the course of the year. It has the feel of being at an oceanside resort enjoying the warm night air and the sounds and scents of the Caribbean.

School Days
Dizzy Gillespie | Live at Newport

One of the Jazz greats making a bunch of nursery rhymes jump. Hope you enjoy the Christmas pie.

Simmer Down
Bob Marley & The Wailers | Songs of Freedom (Disc 1)

Bob Marley has made an appearance on all of the compilations and this year is no exception. Great ska beat, and a pertinent message during the holidays.

The Sun On His Back
Camera Obscura | Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi

This band has grown on me over the last six months. Their latest album is one that I think almost anyone would enjoy. This song has definitely helped counteract the cold weather of my morning commute.

The Christmas Song
The Raveonettes | The Christmas Song – Single

Best version of a Christmas inspired song in the history of this compilation in my opinion. Love the mood it creates.

The Limbo Song
Frankie Anderson | Putamayo Presents Calypso

Lively tune, and another gem from my adventures in all things calypso.

 Home
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros | Up From Below

Sara and I went to Barcelona during the holidays this year, hence the tardiness of the album. This tune became the theme song of the vacation, and we figured everyone else would like it as much as we do.

Crabwalking
Prince Jazzbo | Studio One Rockers

Awesome song recorded in the mid-70s that was way ahead of its time. This marks the end of the danceable tracks, but you can always hit repeat.

Jelly Roll
Charles Mingus | Mingus Ah Um

Astute Inflatable Christmas Tree listeners may recall that I had a version of this song on the first volume. This version is from my favorite Mingus album of all time, and I could not resist including it.

Beach Baby
Bon Iver | Blood Bank – EP

Sara and I should have a lot more than just chairs and blankets to bring to the beach this summer. Bon Iver is a fantastic band that I have been immersed in over the course of the year; please give their other work a listen.

Dancing Mood
Delroy Wilson | The Story of Jamaican Music

I have been meaning to include this song for the past couple years, so now it is here.

Pachelbel’s Canon
Bakra Bata | Steel Drums, Percussion & Flute

My sister, Maggie had a steel drum band play in the church during her wedding, and their version of this song was a perfect start to a magical day.
